Pros and Cons of a High Rack

What are your thoughts on a high rack for a Polaris Ranger. I am considering a DIY project using a two man ladder stand that I had laying around and adapting it to fit into the bed of my Ranger.

Life flight, at least that is what happened when my cousin fell off his.

Don't go too high. A guy on our place has one on his mule that is pretty tall. It gets pretty western riding up there. I would suggest that you have a good foot rest. It makes a huge difference in being able to keep in your seat.

Con you can’t stand in your bed to fill feeders

BTW the setup that I am planning is not intended for someone to actually ride on while the Ranger is moving, just to sit on while hunting. It would be rear facing and the seat would be approximately the height of the roof.

I actually made an aluminum frame with a foot print the size of my old ranger crew roof with sides up to shooting height from a lawn chair. Covered the frame in camo burlap and down to the drip rail of the ranger roof.

Kids and I used it a lot for afternoon hunts in the pastures. It was great for that.

Used it a few times for crown fueled wee hour pig hunting. Was sketchy for that.

Doesn't work on our new ranger/roof otherwise we'd still use it.
