    South Dakota Deer Hunt

    Hi all,
My Dad, oldest son, two buddies and myself will be heading to South Dakota in November for a deer hunt the week before Thanksgiving. What are some things that are a must to bring with us and any other "must do's" while there. We will have access to over 40,000 acres of private land. We will be staying in bunk houses with a few of them scattered across the 40,000 acres. One of my buddies is from the area and several years removed but any additional information and guidance is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

What part of the state are you going to be in? I lived in Rapid City for a few years. Actually getting married in Sioux Falls this weekend.

It depends on what part of the state you will be. West river or East river. Pick up some Wild Dutchmen sunflower seeds while you are up there.

Warm clothes for sure. Born and raised in siouxfalls till i joined army. Bring some big coolers its easy to shoot a 200 pound doe or even larger buck. Could try for pheasants, bring a shotgun along

I put in for my West River tag/pref point last week. I have hunted there a couple different Novembers. It can be snowy, 50-60's and sunny, or wet and cold. Be prepared for all of it.

The Black Hills, Custer SP, and Rushmore are great if you're close to that area.

Good responses! I have pheasant hunted there 3 times, 1 bison hunt, and 1 deer hunt. Yep, the deer are MUCH bigger than I expected.....and not pressured for the most part. Enjoy the trip, it is a wonderful state to bowhunt deer and pheasant hunt!!!

Rifle or Bow? Spot and Stalk or Blind?
Warm clothes should be obvious, but also some light clothes as well. I've been there in Nov when its in the 60's or single digits. I've done a lot of SD hunting in just a hoodie. Also done a lot in insulated Carharts.

Most important piece for me is Warm and Comfortable boots. I do a TON of walking when I deer hunt SD. Sorel Conquest is my favorite boot for hunting SD Deer and Pheasants.

If you have not been in the Black Hills you should check them out. There are several different towns to see and Mt. Rushmore. Downtown Rapid City has a few bars/restaurants. Make sure you have clothing for all types of weather. I am usually out in October and I have seen 20-70 degrees. You should have a blast out there. That is open country out that way and I would have good binos
