    Skimmer scanner app

I heard about a skimmer scanner app this morning on the news. It works by using your Bluetooth on your phone to detect a skimming device on the gas pump. While I know it's not foolproof, I wonder if it would at least mitigate the risk of getting hacked at the pump. I've been hit a few times the last few years and as recent as a couple of weeks ago.

Anybody downloaded it and use it on a regular basis? Just wondering if it's worth a try.

I and my wife have it downloaded. I know for a fact it has saved me at a gas stations in cypress, Lampasas, and. Deer Park. It has helped my wife twice.

    Not foolproof but ANYTHING helps

Good to hear. And that's exactly how I feel, if it helps only once, it's worth it to avoid the headache of dealing with getting hacked.

Can someone explain how this works? I don't have a bluetooth device so I'm not sure how this app would work for me.

My credit card was hacked recently and I'm reasonably sure it was a skimmer at a gas pump between here and New Mexico.

You have to have a smart phone with Bluetooth for this app to work.

Last week someone charged almost $9000 on my business account. I've never used the card for anything. The charges were listed as Las Vegas and I was there last month. My only guess is someone had one of the scanners that can get your card info while it's still in your wallet.

They make wallets that protect from that as well.

Good info here. I don't think you have to have an App.
