    Freezer help

So I have a Frigidaire upright freezer, Friday the high temp alarm went off and the freezer showed 25 degrees. So here is what I have done attempting to trouble shoot the problem.

    1. unplugged it for about 10 minutes and powered it back up..Same

    2. Checked for frost inside the unit.... none

    3. manual defrost.... same

    4. force freeze over night... temp went to 26 degrees

    5. checked compressor, seems to be running and hot to the touch.

    6. unplugged unit waited 5 minutes, check the temp on the high side cool to the touch, plugged unit in waited a minute and checked high side temp...hot to the touch. ( appears to be working )

    7. fan is working

    8. electronic display seems to be working.

    9. checked electronic display temp against a thermometer... same temp.

This is a sealed unit, so no real way to check freon. Also I am attempting to find the thermistor to check it but no luck so far.

All help would be appreciated, I have 2 axis and some elk and fish in this freezer and really have no place to put everything if I can't find the problem and get it fixed.

My buddy had the same issue with his 1 time. What he did was clean the condenser because it was caked up with dirt. No air going across the compressor will cause it to trip on high limit. Good luck

Saw a tech do it. My buddies did the same thing. Tech used a tester etc. It is not cheap, if it is that.

Are the coils clean? Since it is cooling some, it might just be an accumulation of dust/dirt.

I have not because the coils are inside the back wall, only way to check them is to empty the freezer and pull a panel from the inside. I am not saying that is not the problem, but there was very little if any dust/dirt around or under the unit..... the wife is a clean freak and keeps the house really clean which includes moving everything and cleaning behind and under.

I had a similar issue with a fridge and I finally decided to pull it away from the wall and removed a back panel. I found that the coils were packed with dust and once I cleaned it ran good. My house is always clean also but it attracts dust. Your coils should be on the exterior of the box but may be under a cover, Google it.

This happens to my garage freezer fairly often. Dirt grass dog hair, etc all gets sucked up.

Problem I had with one was that the duct would get frozen over with ice/frost. I would have to unplug it for several days for it to thaw.

My suggestion would be to find plan b ASAP! Local meat locker or restaurant/grocer might let you put stuff in their walk in until you get it fixed.

Owners manual says to access the coils from the inside, checked the back panel anyway....... Now way to gain access from the back of the unit.

Load your meat into 150 gal igloo chest. $40 worth of DRY ICE from HEB will keep everything frozen for 7 days or as long as you replace the ice. Give you time to fix or replace without loss.

Ok, so off loaded everything in to yeti coolers for now to check the coils.
                            They are very clean
