Looking to get into the Trad world

I’m looking to get into the trad world, I’ve been bow hunting with a compound for about 12 years and it’s time for a change. I’ve been doing some research and im having a hard time on picking a entry level recurve. I’m looking to start from scratch with new everything and don’t want to break the bank by buying the “wrong” or “unnecessary “ equipment, so any input and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Starting with a quality ILF riser, and lower draw weight limbs can get you into things at a very reasonable price range, and allow you to upgrade (limbs/draw weight) later without breaking the bank.

You can get a Top Shelf / Top Quality ILF riser for around $275 shipped, and a decent set of limbs for around $100.

There are a million different options when getting started. Rick gave you some very sound advice. It would be nice and cheaper to just have to buy different limbs when you wanted to increase draw weight. Are you left or right handed?

Dang! I've got a lefty that I'd have given you to at least get you started. Not too many of us wrong handed shooters out there. Good luck and welcome to the fun side of archery. Its the most fun you can have while being frustrated!

I would strongly recommend the galaxy ember bows if you are looking for the best bow for the money. They are very affordable at ~$200, have a great grip, are extremely durable, and shoot great. If you're willing to spend a little more money then an ILF riser paired with a set of TradTech limbs is a great option as well. But personally, I would go with the Galaxy first.

Just remember once you get "hooked" on trad; You must have a lot of money...More than a wife and kids. You will spend countless dollars on arrows, quivers, tabs or gloves, and mostly bows. Be careful Sir. The addiction is a certainty.

                You have been warned.

Check out a sage. About 100.00. I shoot one and am very pleased with it. I've owned many bows over the years and it shoots as good as any bow I've owned. Don't overbow yourself. Start at 35-40# . Move up when you get it figured out. I have 35 and 50# limbs for mine.

I know people say sage, but that would be one of the bows I never buy personally. They won't last you long Ang in the end, you'll just end up spending more. The Galaxy was a good suggestion, Galaxy also had a $300 ilf setup with a 17" aluminum riser that's a great investment. Easton aftermath or CX predator II arrows are good for the price.

I disagree. You get what you pay for. Sage is a good starter bow! Had a few for just that . Starter bows for people wanting to try Trad . If you get the Trad bug and plan on being a Trad archer for life then move on to better factory bows or a custom bow. You can then use the sage for a loaner to pass along the sport.

Bob lee bows are $200 off their in stock bows right now I believe. Call the shop and talk to JJ he is very helpful with new trad archers.

I believe Arvin is right with one exception. The Sage is not just a starter bow in my opinion if you change out the factory bowstring. My Sage is not my hunting bow but it could be. It shoots better than I do. Got limbs in 40 to 55 for it. It is great to have a friend new to trad shoot it.

Whatever you do start LIGHT. 25-35lb limbs are a good starting point.

I know we are all bad-A guys here but starting out heavy WILL teach you all sorts of bad mechanics that will NEED to be unlearned later on if you want to shoot at your best.

Whatever your budget is, knock $200 off of what you are going to spend on the bow and spend that on either a clinic with Tom Clum Sr or his Solid Archery Mechanics online course, you wont regret it.

                              Welcome to the cult!! :-)
