Wow! My first time heading to Pagosa a few years ago in my new half ton with a 12’ trailer and side by side loaded I had to slam the brakes and drop gears to keep from running through a large herd late one night. We guesstimated 70-75 elk in it after trying to count, and though that was massive.

I have had to put up many a fence near my grandparent's ranch near Durango due to herds like that mowing them down. Once they are moving, there is no stopping them.

Gotta buddy that just moved up that way. He sent me a pic on Christmas day of a herd of 500 he had been out watching!

I was hunting up in Montana in wolf country. All the herds there were 50-100 vs 8-12 in all the places I hunted in Wyoming. The guide said that the herds we're a lot smaller before the wolf population came back.
