need your pet load for 22-250

I have Varget and I have IMR 4064... looking to get a load workup for my Ruger American 22" 1-10 twist ---

Using 55gr vmax and I found 69gr tipped Sierra matchkings- got any starting points for me

Varget and 55gr Vmax loaded to factory length is my go to Varmint round. I’m a little over max so I won’t give charge weight but it shoots very well in my Remington VSSF.

I've loaded the load listed on the Varget can for giggles. It shot pretty decently best I can remember.

I load 53 gr vmax and varget in my savage with a 1/12. I can’t remember the charge weight but I’ll check when I get home tomorrow

If those are your only choices I’d spend more time with Varget. If you get a chance you might try H380.

35.6 gr pf H380 pushing a 55-gr Ballistic Tip with Federal LR primers. Not a hot one but shoots under .75" out of my M70 Featherweight IF I load the bullets out closer to the rifling. However, that means it is a "two-shooter" as the rounds won't cycle thru the magazine.

55 grain vmax and a slightly over book load of IMR 8208, with a federal match primer. It shoots 1/4" in my 20" barrel Howa. I've never chronoed it but it shoots flat way out there and is death on anything.

My GF shoots a Ruger 77 Hawkeye in 22/250 and I load it for her. It shot the factory Barnes ammo very well so I tried to duplicate it or at least come close to save a little coin.

                50 gr. Barnes TSX
                CCI 200
                Barnes case or Winchester case
                35.0 gr. IMR 4895

I contacted Barnes and of course they wouldn't give me the powder they use in the factory loads, but they did say that they would recommend I start with H380. I didn't have any on hand so I went with 4895. I have Varget as well, but I'm going to get a pound of H380 and play with it.

BTW, the load I used gets her .5 MOA and she has slayed several big hogs and a couple of good bucks with it.

I worked up a load for a friend recently using Varget and the Barnes 36 gr Varmint Grenade bullet. I had his rifle so I was able to my Hornady modified case gauge to measure distance off lands etc..

You can definitely push this bullet very fast, well over 4000 fps, but it is not a bullet to use for everything. As a general rule, 50-55gr is the bullet weight of choice for this caliber and my personal favorite that I load for my 220 Swift is the Sierra 55gr HPBT Gameking (#1390)

Every gun shoots differently so I would be very, very careful taking someone's load and just blindly loading it up for your own rifle. Check the manuals to verify numbers and go from there to work up your own load.
Good luck in finding a great load combination for your rifle!
