    Boat Trailer Repair/Refurbishment

I have an 88' Champion bass boat trailer that I would like to get repaired/refurbished. Anyone ever had this kind of work done? Looking for something in Houston and surrounding areas.

      What do you need done?

Is it just pretty straight forward wear items like rollers, bunks, winch strap, springs, bearings, lights?

Or are we talking corrosion, sandblasting, welding, re-paint etc?

The second is a much more involved job. I assume it is a painted bass boat trailer.

          Yes, a painted steel trailer.

Bold = everything I need or potentially need done.

May be cheaper to buy new aluminum trailer. Or on Texas fishing forums there is a guy who sells used trailers.

if it is a hollow tube (rectangular structural members) it is probably trash as there may not be enough metal left to work with. those type trailer designs after many years are usually worn very thin by corrosion which is usually much worse than just on the surface.

Call a local high school and see if they have a AG class or shop class.

I did mine in my driveway a few years ago. Made the HOA furious.

I used trailer coat and I need to tell you....be careful with that stuff. It does NOT come off. But it works amazingly

Tell me about this trailer coat stuff. I am going to have to do a little work on my boat trailer here in the spring.

I googled trailer coat and didn't come up with anything. Do you have a link for it?

Absolutely, if it's a tube trailer scrap it, those thing rot from the inside out and you will just be throwing good money after bad. If it's a channel iron trailer like the old Ranger trailers those can be refurbed.

They do that kind of work on painted steel trailers? I have them on my list of places to call, but I haven't done it yet.

                              It's not tube, luckily.
