Salvation of the Soul – The Goal of our Faith

Salvation is a word often used in Scripture that encompasses several works of the Holy Spirit. For this study we are focusing on two parts. Yeshua in Hebrew means Salvation. Salvation also means Yahweh’s Delivery, Yahweh’s Deliverer and Yahweh’s Power. When we come to salvation and give our hearts to Yeshua for the first time we experience a heart connection like Adam and Eve had in the Garden. Our spirit life is joined to THE Spirit Life, Yeshua. This is salvation of the spirit.

Note: Salvation of the spirit and salvation of the soul are not identified as two unattached or independent entities; they are one unit, working together.

We as the redeemed, need to take off old corrupt garments such as evil thoughts actions and emotions that pervert the soul before putting on new garments [the Tree of Life], otherwise we bring contamination upon ourselves. In order to do this we cannot put new garments over the old. We must take responsibility for the old dysfunctional behaviors that bring corruption within us and surrender them in order to remove them. Many believers have never taken responsibility for the old natures or been taught how to take them off thus have never fully experienced the new nature Yeshua has to offer. The only way to discard the old nature is to surrender all to Yeshua[The Word/Instruction/Torah of Yahweh] and have Him circumcise our hearts. This is called the salvation of the soul and this is what Jacob was coming to at the Jabbok River.

Ephesians 4:20-27 “But you [believers] have not so learned Christ/Messiah[The Oracles/The Living Word], if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth[The Law, Psalms 119:142] is in Jesus/Yeshua: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,’ for we are members of one another. ‘Be angry, and do not sin’ [breaking the laws given to Moses, 1 John 3:4]: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.”

Matthew 9:16-17 “No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ[The Word/The Torah], and make no provision for the flesh[sin], to gratify its desires[lawlessness].

    One Flesh

Mankind is made up of three facets or elements and all three act as one in perfect harmony if we have God’s order in our heart. The Hebrew Scriptures say Yahweh made us one/echad. We are made of:
    •A physical body

    •Our soul – (נֶפֶשׁ nepesh – TWOT 1395a)

    •And spirit – (נָפַשׁ chai napash – TWOT 1395)

    •They are all one/echad

The regenerated human spirit is joined with Yahweh’s Spirit but the work of our soul (the seat of our will, emotions and desires) is to conform to, or come into agreement with, the Spirit of Yahweh in our hearts. This is the work Yahweh asks US to do. When Yahweh chose us we were uncircumcised, fragmented, scattered, and mixed with all kinds of different doctrines, cultures and beliefs. We had a blending that caused us to miss the mark for our direction, purpose, responsibility and identity in Him. Once we meet Yahweh at the altar, all that confusion and frustration stops. Suddenly, there is no obstacle preventing us from preparing our heart and soul before Him. If there is, the obstacle is usually found in our thoughts, which influences the heart and our beliefs. Our job is to take responsibility for those rogue ideas, repent and wash/mikvah for a change in status before trying to enter the presence of Yeshua. This power to be transformed from within our spirit and soul comes from what He has accomplished for us through His death and resurrection. The source of this life changing power is His Spirit living within us. The fruit that is produced by this action of sanctification will be seen in the lives of our children through to the next generations – as they are the manifestation of the salvation of our souls - the goal of our faith.

1 Peter 1:9 to 2:3 “…for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Yeshua in them [the prophets] was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Yeshua and the glories that would follow. It [salvation of the soul] was revealed to them [the prophets] that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind [the old sinful nature]. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk [Torah, Yahweh’s teaching and instruction], so that by it [the Gospel], you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that Yahweh is good” (1 Peter 1:9-16).

Salvation of the soul as expressed in the scripture above (1 Peter 1:9-2:3) is about future generations. When we walk away from sinful dysfunction and the dysfunction of our ancestors (called iniquities, sin, lawlessness), we have the ability to change our status from curses to blessings. We are told in scripture that all sin is the sin of dishonor and can travel to the third and fourth generation if not checked.

Exodus 34:7 “visiting the iniquity [generational sins of dishonor] of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation” (Numbers 14:18).

If we repent, and teach our children righteousness[Torah/The Way Yeshua Walked] we can literally cleanse our of future generations. Instead of passing on curses to our children, they will inherit blessings. This is a biblical principle. If we sow dishonor, dishonor will be sown into our children and in turn they will pass that same nature even more so to their children’s children. The salvation of our own soul is seen in the fruit of our children’s walks, as all life is in the blood. By repenting and walking according to Yahweh’s instructions, we can actually sow a clean bloodline into our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Genesis 18:19 For I have chosen him[Abraham], that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way[Torah/Instruction] of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice, so that [conditional] the LORD may bring to Abraham what he has promised him."

Romans 2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

Therefore, it is very important that we take care of how we walk, how we treat and how we train up the next generation as the fruit will reflect in their hearts according to Yahweh’s order (Leviticus 17:11).

Deuteronomy 28:2 “[Repent] And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you [and future generations], because you obey the voice of the LORD your God.”

2 Chronicles 30:9 “For if you return to Yahweh, your brethren and your children will be treated with compassion by those who lead them captive, so that they may come back to this land; for Yahweh your God/Elohim is gracious and merciful, and will not turn His face from you if you return to Him.”
