    Help Supsonic hunting

I got a 300blk I am looking for more knock down power
The ranch I hunt on got some big hogs on it i would be shooting 85 yards

Yes I no I can hunt super Sonics but I want to hunt subsonic...

    45/70
    450 bushmaster
    458 cosom

What would you all go with

All subsonic’s are designed to run less than 1100fps. There isn’t a magic wand to get more power. You can change up bullets to see if one performs better than another but that’s about it.

.300BO should do the trick with an ear shot on any size hog at 85 yards. I drop them regularly with my .22WMR up to 110 yards.

Any of those 45 cal at subsonic are going to be about the same in terms of energy/ballistics. I am currenty waiting on a vers 458 suppressor for a ruger american 450 bushmaster. Just like the idea of loading .452 pistol bullets at subsonic for performance issues due to the fact that they are designed for lower velocities.

The SOCOM and 45/70 both throw 458 bullets, not the 452 pistol bullets. A 500 grain pill launched at 1050 will still still be moving 1026 at 100 yards, with 1233 pound feet of energy. More than double the energy of a 208 Amax from a 300BO at that range.

There are bullets made specifically for the 458 Socom that expand at subsonic velocities. And you can get them in weights between 500-600 grains. That’s a lot of energy.

The amount of bullets in .458 diameter is staggering as well.

If you want to shoot 458 bullets then yes go with the 458 socom or 45/70.

Both of which he listed as options for improvement over the 300bo.

any of the 3 will get the job done, however the 45-70 and 458 socom both use rifle bullets that are capable of standing up to higher velocities than most 45 ( bushmaster) pistol bullets,,,, the 458 socom is the real deal sub sonic or full bore!

                      20-30 yards head shot yup.
Don't even try to think of doing a traditional cavity shot.
Lost both coons and hogs using a .300 Blk.Out.

I stepped up to a 458 Socom now using max loads not sub.

The 300 is enough gun. Put it in the pigs ear. It will drop like a brick.

A .22 will kill an elephant, that doesn't make it the right tool for the job.

probably so,, but with the ones he mentioned,, a hit in the ear will drop him like Thor's hammer! no reason to thump one when you can hammer them!
