Last year I decided to only hunt with bow & MZ fall 2018. Didn’t see much during bow season so pulled the smoke pole out of the safe.
I had used a deer decoy several times earlier this month with very good success but decided to change my strategy by hand corning trails & leveraging the rut.
So I was in the woods earlier this week with the cold weather & rut stirring up the deer...my favorite time of the year!
The hand corn worked by holding doe in the area from lunch to almost dark. With the wind in my favor & calming down, eventually a buck cruised by & got interested in the doe right at dusk.
My set up is a TC Omega 50 cal, 2 White Hot pellets & a 250 grain Barnes Spit-Fire T-EZ bullet/sabot.
He came in right to left, stood broadside at 137 yards, looked away from me & then back at me.
I put the scope on his broad chest & used the first reticle below the crosshairs which is set up for 125 yards.
The trigger crept back, smoke flowed out & filled my visual field for a moment. As the smoke passed & dissipated, it revealed a white bellied buck laying DRT.
When I walked up on him, there was a long kicker point coming from his right base protruding backwards.
