    257 weatherby reload data?

    Fellas,

About to start messing with my 257 weatherby CDL remington. It has shot ok with factory nosler ammo but I know this round can do better. Where is good starting point? This will be strickly be a hunting gun for ammo selections, lots of praise for the accubonds.

    Thanks!

What did it shoot with the factory noslers?

Seems like there's been a few threads on here where people were never satisfied with the accuracy of their 257 CDLs.

    I'm shooting 115gr Bergers over Reloader 25

Factory noslers was 1.5" group which is more than acceptable, but I like the confidence of .5"-1" groups. Have not bedded stock but did put a timney thin blade on, man what a difference!

I would start with Berger bullets and Vihtavuori powder … been shooting this combination for decades and it's a recipe for success in my rifles

Have you tried Weatherby factory Ammo?

Although my rifle is a custom, I’ve not been able to better the .28” groups that it shoots with Weatherby factory Ammo.

120gr nosler Partiton over RL 25 was a clover leaf out of my 257 weatherby.

I also like this combo. Do you know the twist? I like to do 5 sets of 5. Whatever load shoots the tightest I would use that load. I also like to remove the stray shot (the shot furthest from the group), and prefer to do this at 300. After this I would do another 5 set of 5 carrying in length.

I would also add if you don’t load several places will load for you and keep your load data for future loads.

Have shot the 100 grain spitzer weatherby ammo, still same result.

i have a 257 accumark. shoots lights out have a 257 vanguard.. shoots lights out
have a 700 cdl sf 257......well, it sucks.. 2-3.5" with all weatherby offerings. I spent a pretty penny on truing action/bedding/jewel trigger/recrown and reloading only to end up with a finely tuned 1.5-1.75" handload with 100 ttsx or tsx. my experience is, take it for what it's worth....if a rifle shoots poorly, with many diff weights of bullets, it's prob not going to improve much with handloading.. hindsight, I should have sold for the loss, or re-barreled right from the get go

I'm just not ready to give up just yet, haha! Right now, it appears in between nodes and with some loading work, can get it to MOA or better.
