    Tire Mileage Rating ?

Had a neighbor of mine borrow an air compressor due to a low tire on his Prius. Said he ended up getting a new set because he was at the 3/32 wear level & only had 53k miles on that set. Said they were a 100k mile rated tire. He said discount tire gave him 1/2 credit off on his new set because he only got about 1/2 the mileage rated for that tire. This is new to me I’ve never heard they will honor the rated mileage & credit you. I’ve never made the rated mileage on a set of tires either. He acted like he was completely shocked he only got 1/2 of the rated tire mileage. My truck is at 35k miles and I’m very close to needing a new set. I’d bet their not even 70k rated tires

I'll have to look into it as when I purchased a new set of tires a few months ago from Discount they said I had warranty on the mileage rating of the tire.

Basically if the tire went out before the mileage they would replace with a new one for free and I would just pay a small $10 mounting fee or something. I didn't pay much attention as my work pays for my tires but I'll see what I can find out

That’s a good deal if they do. I was only aware of road hazard plan options on tire replacement due to damage. They never explain tire warranty & what that means. Thanks

Don’t quote me, but I believe the policy is that, they will pro rate the millage if it doesn’t make the warranty

Son just went thru this on trash firestone tires. Dealer fought him tooth and nail but finally contacted firestone and they pro rated him 45%.

The mileage ratings are definitely a guarantee BUT you have to meet certain standards. For example, you have to have your tires rotated on schedule. The tires can’t show any abnormal wear such as would be caused by an alignment issue or inflation issues. When I worked at Firestone, it was rare for us to warranty out based on mileage when people took care of their tires correctly.

If the rare instance presented itself, we prorated the credit based on the miles driven since installation. If you used 30k of a 50k tire, you got 40% off a new set.
