    Bulk Braided fishing line question

Has anyone bought the 500+ yards of braided fishing line off of Amazon? If so how has it worked? I have a couple big surf rods of my grandad’s hat were passed down to me that I need to re-spool. Yes I understand you get what you pay for.

    Thoughts? Experiences??

I recently bought some Kastking off of Amazon. I got 547 yds. of 20lb braid for $20 something bucks.($28, I believe) Spooled a new reel and just used it yesterday. I am pretty impressed. Some complaints on the reviews about the die used to color the line. But I didn't mind it. Seems to cast pretty well.

I am not sure on that line but i usually only buy FINNS windtAmer. I usually run 300 yards plus on reel then top off the rest with mono. If land based fishing i want the mono on the sand rubbing not the braid.

I have been using braid for a very long time, in my experience I have changed brands a couple of times. I used power pro super slick 8 only. Then i started have breaks in the middle of the spool repeatedly. I had used it for several yrs. Before this started happening since then I have been using suffix 832 it has been good for quite some time. The other day I experienced brand new line breaking. I think they somehow get bad batches and there is no way to know just by looking at it. With that said I would be hesitant to buy in bulk just for this reason.

I bought this from Cabelas. Works pretty good for my offshore rods. I pretty much just fish power pro or Windtamer on my bay rods when I want casting performance..

Almost without exception, if you buy it in the US, it's all made by Honeywell, to the companies specs. Some people tow the line as far as the diameter vs the breaking strength. Line companies, that make lines very close to the diameter for a givin breaking strength, have problems when a bad batch is run. If your line states 20lb and has the diameter of 20lb, but has bad spots, you're gonna notice real quick. Big problem with Power Pro for awhile. But you take someone like Fins Windtamer for example. They state 20lb on the box, the reality is it's actually 40lb line. So you have a bad spot in the line, your not gonna notice, because at half strength, it's still as strong as the next guys 20lb. This stuff isn't regulated though, so they can lie and say anything they want. Such as strongest 20lb line in it's class. Yeah, because it has the diameter of 50lb :-/. All smoke and mirrors. Look at the stated diameter though, and compare it to the know breaking strength for that diameter and then see what lb test they tell you it is. Do a little research and if it is made by honeywell(almost guaranteed) it will be as good as the next line at that diameter, and same amount of strands. Don't compare 4 strand to 16 strand. Like slick 8 to Fins Windtamer 4 strand.
Look up PAULUS JUST FOR FISHING. Lots of info, and nobody anywhere test lines like him, or knows as much.

Cabela’s has 2500 yard spoils of their brand on sale. I just got 2500 yards of 130# for $99. I will just use this on a reels I don’t cast. 50w and 80w. If you are casting I would be careful. I use Diana from Japan and I pay a premium for it

I haven't tried it yet but there is tackle shop in Corpus that has a youtube channel called Hard Life Fishing and they are doing head to head comparisons on Jerry Brown and a new line called Xtreme. Its not very expensive and it looks like its holding its own from watching their videos. They are sponsored by them so they could be biased but their reviews seem pretty honest. There is a knock off called Extreme that isn't any good watch out for that.

I’m not an expert but know of a couple people that would be considered one. If you buy cheap braid you get cheap braid. Xtreme braid is what most people are wanting and buying now. It is cheaper than the competitors and it is good line. A lot of big sharks have been brought to the sand. Poco can prove that. Now the problem with xtreme braid is everyone is out of the big stuff so it’s going to be very hard to find.
