    Copper Breaks State Park

I had a buddy drawn for rifle deer at Copper Breaks State Park. I tried searching the green screen for any info on the deer or deer hunts there, but came up blank. Anyone have any experience there or on any of the adjacent properties?

No experience other than camping at the park and fishing, but the area in general is known for good deer.

There are both good whitetail and mule deer in that park. I think 135" whitetail and 145" mule deer are probably average mature bucks in that area.

          Good luck to your buddy!

With my old firm, I used to design engineering projects for parks and wildlife and got to meet a lot of their park staff. If found that the park staff know were the deer are going to be. If possible, you should chat up some of the guys when you arrive for the hunt and see if they have been seeing anything good.

Good luck to him. I got e-postcard hog there in February and man there is no info anywhere on this place.

He called and spoke with the folks at the park. They made it sound like no one has killed a buck on any hunts in the past.

Any news from your buddy on how the hunt went? What he did or didn’t see?

Well that’s a good sign at least. Thanks.

I managed to find one short post on hunting this place (on another forum). Said the whole park is shut down for me and the other person that drew and we have the whole place to ourselves. That’s got me pretty excited.

I hunt just a little way up the road in Quanah and there are some good deer in the area. It's a draw I put in for every year. No luck so far. If I ever do get draw I can stay in my camper at the lease and drive to the park. I would also have some opportunities to scout the place before showing up to hunt.
Having looked at satellite images quite a bit I like the look of the South end of the park where the Pease river bows up into the park grounds. It has always been my plan to scout that area first and see if there is a game trail along the river.

He saw a couple of bucks tailing a doe one day. He saw a lot of tracks, but he didn’t see many deer at all. He didn’t get a shot at anything.
