    Gravel/road base driveway cost?

I’m looking at buying 5 acres and will have to build a road to the shop location. The ground is a medium hard pack sand. How thick do you think it’ll have to be to support big trucks when I build the Barndominium. It’s about 500’ long and I was thinking 9’ wide.

I was quoted the other day for a 700’ Drive way 12’ wide flex base $525 per load spread. Guy said I needed 7 loads.

a 15 yd truckload of road base is around 275 or 300... i can spread that in 15-20 mins with a skidsteer.. I would imaging that if you have the least bit of DIY in you you could just retnt the skid and have it done over the weekend for far less than you think.

Depends on your soil. Where i am at in the black gumbo i have put 3-4 inchs down and over the last year it has pushed into the soil. Gets soft with a lot of rain.

It consist of crushed limestone 3/4 down to dust. Makes a concrete like base when you get enough down. Then you can add a nicer less dusty material over it.

I have paid from 225 a load to 435. Funny thing is the 225 load was the same size as the 435 load. Yea i got screwed. I wish i could get the guy that did the 225 a load to come back. I think he realized he charged too little.

In Abilene it is $50 a cubic yard

15 yards would be $750 plus delivery

Guys make sure they are putting down a quality, woven separation fabric. I would recommend Mirafi 600x if you’ll have any amount of heavy truck traffic.
Definitely something you guys should ask about.

PM me if y’all want a quote on the fabric alone. Might save you some money if contractor is willlng to let you supply.

Guess this keeps the road base from pushing them to the dirt?

Would this allow u not to have to put as much base down?

That’s exactly right. Keeps your aggregate out of your soil.

The road will only be as good as the sub grade you're putting it on.

if you prep the soil correctly, lay fabric, and put 8"of base then you'll be fine to stand up to concrete trucks and other construction equipment.
