Just bought my first Mosin Nagant!

So I just bought my first Mosin Nagant today, and I’m wondering how other people’s experiences are with them? And what do y’alls setups look like? Anything unique? How well do they perform with synthetic stocks?

I have one and it is junk. My son bought it several years ago. I sporterized it with a composite stock and a long eye relief scope. Did some research on the arsenal where it was made and found that a large percentage of them from that armory shoot 5 inches high. The front site is not adjustable and there are fixes for them, but that is why I went with the scope. Took it to a smith and he scoped the barrel and it is in horrible shape. Shot out and corroded. I know some of them are shooters, just not the one my son bought. Good thing it was cheap.

I have one I bought years ago and killed 2 deer with it . I put it in a new stock and put a Nikon scope on it , even went as far as putting a "rock solid industries " bolt handle and scope base . It's a nice 400$ Mosin now haha ..

I bought several for $50. Also bought 10 spam cans of ammunition. Now the ammunition is not imported and the guns are with 5x what I paid for them. Should have bought cases of them 5 years ago instead of some of the stock investments I've made

In my opinion the mosin is not a rifle to put a lot of money into sporterizing. Shoot it the way it is and enjoy. Ringing steel at 500 with a WWII rifle and spam can ammo is a lot of fun.

Well, I'm about to redo mine with another scope base modification and a modified POSP scope that I haven't quite finished up yet but currently this is how my sits.

The rifle is a Mosin Nagant M91/30 scoped. Receiver markings show a 1939 Izhevsk Soviet Union I believe and I originally paid $89 for just the rifle when she was ugly. They are fun and great shooters.

If they were great guns they wouldn't be cheaper than hi points. But it's something cheap to shoot. Don't expect much out of it and you won't be disappointed.

Guys I posted this a year ago, but thanks for the replies. I've shot it a million times by now and love it. It's great for pigs.

Cheap but strong, rugged, reliable !!!

                    Begjason,
That's my fault. I was bored and noticed that some of my old forums wouldn't let me post until I talked a little more. Mosins always catch me eye and I replied without first looking at the last post date. My bad. It's really great you love shooting your rifle. I like practicing shooting positions with mine and best thing of all, you know your not spending a lot of money on ammo. HaHa You take care man.
