Pat Mayse WMA and Angelina Neches Dam WMA

Any one been to either of these??? Me and my dad are going to take a week and maybe 2 just to take the 'tour de Texas' of public hunting lands and we have no idea where to start. Any helpful info on these places or your favorite, OK, 2nd fav spot would be very appreciated so my Dad doesn't loose interest and want to go home early. Thanks

Well Pat Mayse WMA dont have any deer. j.k it is a pretty good place just got back from there this past weekend and I shot a 125lb hog down by the lake it is filled up with hogs, and I seen a total of 8 bucks and about 2 dozen does. Also seen plenty of geese and ducks in the mornings I actually got my daily limit of geese on saturday which was pretty cool. Good luck on your journey and keep us updated.

Pat Mayse-Corp of engineers land off of Hwy 271 N going out of Paris, has some huge deer herds moving, they move in the midle of the day adn it is really a great place to hunt.

I've been a little disapointed with Pat Mayse.The antler restrictions they put in place 3 years ago just haven't panned out the way I thought they would. I've hunted the WMA at least once or twice a year since 1989 and I dont think the deer numbers have gone up at all,especially buck numbers.Maybe my expectations were too high.I suspect a lot of year-round poaching goes on in that area.

The Angelina Neches Dam WMA has some really good hunting. Some big deer and tons of hogs. Most of the area, the best areas, are only accesible by boat. Almost anywhere between the forks of the rivers is good hunting!

yes buzzcut I was talking to the game warden out there at opening of bow season and to that date over summer he had writen 2 dozen tickets for poaching or accused of poaching, right down the road he busted an older gentlemen that was leaveing his treestand in the tree and hand feeding with corn dropping it on the ground they busted him took about 3 weeks for the game warden to catch up with him but the antler restrictions have worked cause I seen some nice bucks this lsat weekend and this is the first time in 2 years I have seen the quality of bucks I had and if I had a gun not a bow one would be on my wall right now. This week me and my Dad will start with Cooper then end up at Pat Mayes. My # is (254)396-5463 for any one that would like to join us at either. Its going to be an awesome time! Dad has never shot a pig before and I know a few spots at Cooper I think I can get him on one! I might be taking a video camera to video his hunt. I'll put it on here when we get back. Dang I gotta move some things to the storage unit lol or I would be in for cooper, I probably be out at ol LBJ I wanna try to get a yote out there and if I come across a deer that too but my brother in-law wants a yote rug.
