    Kids board bow build along

I made one of these years ago for the oldest and now my youngest boy has started to show an interest so I'm gonna make him one for Christmas. I'll try and keep it as live as possible.
First I got a 1/4"x2 @ 48" red oak board and marked the center then measured 3" up and put a mark, then the same 3" down.

Next for the tips measure 3/8" in from each and place a mark. Draw a line from those marks to the marks 3" away from center and u should end up with something like this.

Next I cut along the lines and ended up with something that looks like a bow! For the handle I used a piece of mesquite left over in the scrap pile and some antler for the limb tips. Not real sure how this is gonna work out yet. But at worst I'm out the three bucks I paid for the board.
I epoxied them in place and clamped, now we wait

So now the next step was to round tips and cut string grooves. The antler tips were a lot harder to work with but I think they came out ok.

Now to shape the riser, little work with a rasp and some sandpaper and I think I got it where I like it.

Nice! I've thought about doing a board bow, I'll have to follow along and pick up some tips!

Well I'm done for the day got the handle the way I like it and strung it up and tested it out. Good news is it shoots!! I work tomorrow so will probably finish it up Tuesday.

And as far as getting tips I'm sure there are much more credible sources hahaha.

Got started early this morning and stained the front of the bow. Then I've been reading that the bow would need a backing in case it cracks while being shot. All I did was glue on some green construction paper and then glue over the top of that. I'm not 100% sure I like the color but I guess I could paint it worst case.

Once it's all dry all that's left is a final sanding and to apply a finish.

Have you tillered it already? I think we missed that part.

From what I have read since the board it's made from is so thin you have to be cautious with how much you remove during the tillering process. Luckily for me it had a nice shape when I looked at it so I really only had to remove a small amount on the lower limb. I forgot to take pictures of the process however. I'm not sure if the backing will have any affect on the tiller so we shall see when dry

Well got it all finished, strung up and shot about a dozen arrows with it. I need to bring my nock down some but other than that it shoots good. Ended up a little lighter than I wanted at 8#s at the 24" draw but it's just something to get him started
The antler tips turned out ok but could use a bit of refinement

Overall the green backing is kinda growing on me
