Just out of curiousity, does anyone know of a walk in duck hunting area that I could take my 9 year old too? I generally hunt East Matagorda but did not want to run my small boat out there with him that early in the morning. I would like his first trip to be memorable. I would prefer something local, we live near Galveston.

well I am in north texas and lake lewisville and lake ray roberts are the only places I know.Comment

ray roberts is a good place to go but you need a boat to get to most of the spots, texoma is a really good place to duck hunt and can get to most spots by walking(in waders).Comment

Out East you have several walk-in WMA places to blast the quackers. Check out Justin Hurst WMA (fka Peach Point) and I think Mad Island.Comment

They are part of the Annual Public hunting permit, but I think Justin Hurst you may be able to pay $10 on-site for a one time hunt. It's a big place and lots of people but they keep the birds moving and seems like peeps do pretty well. I went there once long ago for an extended snow goose hunt and had a flock come over me about 10' high... I couldn't hit squat until they got further out. lolComment
