    Smoker alteration help

I have a standard off-set smoker currently but want to make some some changes to and add a vertical cooking/warming chamber on the opposite end of the firebox.(So from left to right will be vertical cabinet, cooking chamber then firebox) How much of an opening between cooking chamber and vertical cabinet? I am assuming the opening between the cooking and chamber should be in the top of of the cooking chamber??
Please advise. I have been looking to find these answers and see several different answers and am really confused.

    Thanks

IMO the opening should be at same level as the cooking grate

Thanks for the reply BDC! Thinking of making the opening between 2 chambers the same as the main chamber and making a damper. Sounds like it would work. Your thoughts?

Sounds good by me. You can also find youtube vids with guys like Aaron Franklin explaining how he builds his smokers. A ton of science and detail behind it.

I think the damper would be a must.
