    New to trad shooting

I have done quite a bit of research and decided to go to Bob Lee's shop and I'm glad I did. I have never shot a recurve bow and have been shooting compounds for about 13 years or so. I went and talked to Rob Lee and his son J.J. Took me out and I shot a couple bows, from what I have read I was thinking that I was going to have to start out with a really light poundage bow but I was shooting a 61 lb bow just as good as the 50 and 40 and he said I shot it great and so I asked him if I should go with a little lighter bow and he said I had no struggle whatsoever and within a couple weeks of building different muscles it would be just fine and honestly it feels great, I'm not rushing the shot or struggling to keep my anchor points so I'm pretty happy with it. I shot it probably 200 shots since yesterday and still not sure which way I shoot better instinctive or gap. I will get the hang of it, up to this point I have gotten a consistent group of about 3" groups at 15 yards and a little bigger at 20 yds. So far my anchors I have been using is thumb behind the neck and tip of the nose on the feather. Any advice on getting started or form or just anything y'all think I may need to know please enlighten me. Here are some pics of the bow.

Practice, a lot. When you feel yourself getting tired, quit. Other than that, have fun!

61# You must be a young buck! Have fun with it. It is a rollercoastr ride, with lots of ups and downs along the way. But the successes are much more rewarding because of how hard it is to get good with a trad bow!

Welcome to the fun side, and Merry Christmas!

Pretty bow! Welcome to the addiction.

3"@15yds is awesome buddy. I imagine you must use your back/shoulders alot every day already to be stable at that weight out the gate. That is why they say everybody's trad journey is different.

My advice is to try to take your time in finding your own personal style. Shoot when you can and look for opportunities to shoot with others. Mix it up too. Shooting at the same type of target gets boring. I have 5-6 different types of targets to choose from any time I go out. I'll also shoot standing, sitting, and kneeling.

61 lbs at what draw length?

If your dl is 26 inches then your probably only pulling 56 lbs

I shot a little bit this morning and feel I shoot better instinctive than gap, here a couple pics of groups

Those are about my average groups at 15-20 with occasional flyers, I feel confident taking it hunting but I'm gonna shoot for a couple weeks and go try and shoot a pig. I'm going to go out and shoot from a treestand to get use to the elevated shooting.

When I'm shooting if I lose the slight bit of focus on the dot that's when my groups open up or get a flier

Welcome to the simple side, simple as in not as many gidgets and gadgets to worry with. By no means simple to master!

Only advice I'll give is from a tree BEND at the hip, and when u think you've picked your spot on a deer go a little lower!

                        Have fun! Shoot often!

                        God bless,
                        Lance
