    Wife wanted a bed

We recently purchased a lake house but, we don't have enough beds to fill it. My wife is even cheaper than I am and suggested I could just build one. I have never built one but figured I would give it a shot. I didn't think to take pictures until I was quite a ways into the project.

I wanted to make it so the bed would disassemble so I went with plywood rails covered with cedar pickets that were then fastened together using brackets purchased off of Amazon. For simplicity, I just used rough cedar and sanded them down.

For the center support, I glued left over plywood together and they dropped down into a "U" support I made. The next step was to cut some support slats. Again, I just used cheap pine 1x3's cut to length and sanded. It's hard to tell from the 3rd pick but, I filled the space between the plywood rail and the top of the cedar rail with a finished cut cedar picket. I also made the headboard such that it was removable from the bottom rail and trimmed it with 1x2s.

I have no idea how to fix rotated pics.

Last pic is the bed in the house. I used left over deck stain from a Summer project. Please ignore the lovely pink walls. Painting that room is very high on the to-do list.

I had no plans for this thing and just had a general idea of what I wanted it to look like. Then I just made it up as I went along.

Looks great! It's hard to beat the feeling of accomplishment you get when you make something yourself.

I hope you got that wood free because IKEA beds can be had for $50 off cragislist
But I'm sure you get the satisfaction of telling your lakehouse guest you made the bed they're sleeping on with your barehands

                NICE LOOKING BED!!!
