    Reconyx Hc 500 camera

Any folks out there use one of these? I bought one a week or so ago and I am not real satisfied with the distance/quality of the night pictures. I'm may have set my expectations too high seeing as it's a $450 game camera but to be honest, I think I get just as good a picture with a $79 Moultrie from Walmart. Full disclosure, I have been working with tech support at Reconyx and they have been great....but no solution.

The camera is set on the closest tree, approximately 28ft from directly under the feeder.....they claim it to have up to a 50ft flash range.

    What say my Brothers?

The rearend of that deer on the left side of the picture is about 15ft from the camera, that rock beyond the feeder is about 33ft.

Exactly what I'm thinking.........like I said, I've gotten the same quality from $79 Moultrie and Bushnell's from Walmart.

I was expecting much better for that much jack. I have sent Reconyx pictures and the guy I am working with said the quality is lacking.....I was just wondering if anyone else here had one.

supposed the only difference between the HC500 and the HC600 is the 600 has "covert" IR flash

I know it sounds crazy, but I have two older Moultrie that have an old school flash and they are 5 yrs. old and take amazing night pics and never seem to bother the deer!

I'd love to have something to compare, if you could give me approximate distances to objects in picture.

I agree something is not right with that camera. Take it back were you bought it. You should also be able to send that pic to there customer support and tell them. I have the HC600(no flash) cameras and they are way better then that. With the red flash, you should get way better pics. My thought is the IR is not working, or programed correctly. Please let us know what becomes of this. But there is some thing wrong. Where did you buy it ? Trailcampros.com may be of some help also.

Just a follow up, Reconyx Tech Support has been great, they agree that the camera should be doing a much better job at night than that. They are sending me another camera and asked me to send mine back for testing. Hopefully I'll have better results with a new camera. I'll let you know.

Tilt the camera down a bit or lower it the infrared flash looks to high to me honestly I had that issue but it was with a different brand of camera
