    Protein Ideas

Got on a deer lease finally. Only 2 other hunters, both very management minded and looking to stay long time to build a heard. Protein is a must, I want to put a gravity feeder for pellets, but also want to have another source. I know cotton seed is a good one but looking for other ideas as well. What say the Green Screen? What else should I look at, preferably stuff coons won't screw with.

Not much help but congrats on the new lease! Protein and cottonseed is what we use along with some mineral blocks.

We feed protein pellets from December to end of August, feed cottonseed from January to April and corn from August to end of January. I like to put different types of feed out throughout the year.

I would feed strictly protein. Keep it full at all times and you won't need anything else. I've used cottonseed in the past. It makes deer fat but i'm not convinced that it does a lot for antler growth.

I agree with you on the cottonseed. The main reason we use cottonseed is to help fatten up the bucks post rut so they can put all of their resources towards antler growth in the Spring.
