    Hay feeder to hog trap

A buddy gave me this round bale ring a couple years ago and I really haven't needed it much. Until now! With a little panel and square tubing I'm going to put this thing to good use. I just need two more 2' sections of panel for the door and the pony wall. Add the cable for a trip wire and we'll see what we can catch.

That'll do it. Make sure you stake it down good if you ain't gonna put a floor in it.

I was thinking four T-posts should do it to stake it down.

Sounds like it'll work to me. And if not then hopefully they won't carry it off too far

I have great memories of my lease buddy "chasing" his similar trap thru the cactus with a large boar inside, plinking the boar over and over with his Ruger .22 pistol. Boar finally lifted the trap up on a pear patch and escaped, catching a couple more LR bullets on the run. I often wondered where my buddy was gonna go if the boar took exception to the lead poisoning.

So, stake it down solidly, and then add a couple more for insurance.

Lol! It's like chasing a giant hamster in a roll around ball!!
I'm thinking some t-posts and a chain to the tree for good measure.

I built one almost identical to that using a steel bobbin spool that fiber optic tubing comes on, the only problem I have is moving it from place to place. I flip it on its side and roll it to where I am going. I live in south Georgia and use it in the woods not on fields. The benefit is that after I limb a 5 foot wide trail to roll it on it is easy to access with the 4 wheeler to get the hogs or add corn to it. I used 4 t posts to secure it and some wire and never had any problem with a hog being able to move it at all, but I did add a smaller mesh wiring inside the panels because I noticed all the smaller pigs could get through the larger holes and those little buggers are too good on the grill to let that happen. The last one I built was made using chain link fencing and re-bar wiring ties and it works great with a lot less welding involved.

That's got to work fine! What type of trap door will you be using? I would recommend flooring though.

I do not have flooring in mine and it works fine. I have caught a boar that was 225 lbs and no problems with him moving the trap. He did get his snout through the wire panel and bent the wire up trying to pull up the t posts but it did not work out too good for him. I stood on the wire and tried to bend it back down and I weight 220 lbs and jumped up and down on it and could not get it to bend back, they are a lot stronger than you would ever think so be careful when you go to get them they will charge you and ram the cage trying to get out or at you be prepared they are dangerous when they feel threatened.

I'm going to put a spring on this door once I finish putting the paneling on, I still need to put it in the door and the section next to it. Also a piece of sheet metal on the bottom of the door so they can't stick their nose in it and pull the door back open.

Thanks. When I'm said and done I'll be Into it for about $80 using scrap and the hay ring.
