    When to change bow string

I have a hoyt alphamax, and have had the same string on it since '09. I shot a lot when i first got it, but not so much over the past few years. Its been well taken care of and always waxed. When do most of y'all change your bowstrings.

Manufacture says every year. Most of the time you can get two. Good luck.

I go about every other season. Strings are cheap considering damage that can be done from a broken string.

My rule of thumb is two years. If my string holds up well, I'll give it a while after the season is over before changing them. If they look bad after one year, I'll swap them out. If I were you I would change them just to be safe. They may look fine, but have problems you cannot see

mine has had the same string on it since 2010. it WILL be changed after this season. I keep it super waxed and had a proshop look at it just a few weeks ago and he said it was still an 8/10 condition.

Every other year is good practice. Like gatt40 stated strings are cheap compared to replacing cams and limbs when one blows up because a strings gave way. Strings can deteriorate from the inside out if something gets on them and works its way into the center stands.

I also have had my strings on since Sept 2010. I took it to the bowshop a couple of months ago and they said it had another good year.... I do wax the strings alot. I plan on getting strings after the deer season is over this year.

Would change them before the season.. As in now..

Bought the Hoyt Charger new last year. Used it quite a bit last fall plus lots during 3D shoots and practice this year. Two weeks ago the factory strings broke and I had them replace them with custom strings. It takes 1-2 weeks for full repair so better to do it now than wait for something to happen during season.

Same for me, should we be concerned?

Nah..keep it waxed. Changing it out often is overrated in my opinion.

I used to shoot ALOT! We are talking thousands of shots a year. I would still get a year out of a set of strings no problem. Look at them closely. If they are starting to look fuzzy you might want to trade them out, but they will most likely make it awhile longer. If you see a broken strand you need to replace ASAP. If in doubt better to replace now than in the middle of the season.

Can an old string effect the over all draw length? I have a bow that was given to me and the draw was to long so we changed the draw length as far as the factory adjustment would go, but it is still to long. It looks like it is the original string on the bow. It is a silencer by pearson, my best guess is it is a mid-90's model.
