    garden

I have a garden and few watermelons and was wondering if anyone knew about the dendrils drying out is the full proof method to determine ripeness or if there are better methods. I have 2 that are close to being ripe and six total in my back yard. I have a green thumb, just ignorant about harvesting watermelons. My tomatoes are taller than my wife.

    Bump for you.

Our garden has been producing well this year. Lots of tomatoes and peppers. We have some Korean melons that are doing very well too. Those change colors and it is easier to tell if ripe. We tried Watermelon a few years back without much success.

I can usually tell when mine are ripe by finding a hole in the end where a raccoon cleaned the heart out. Seriously though, the dendrils drying method is the only way I know of. I try to let them go a few days longer but it's a gamble. Good luck with them and if you find a better way let us know.

Its fool proof. It will be the one attacheded to the pig tail attached to the watermelon. When it dies and drys up it should be good and ripe.
I was never any good at thumpen them to tell if they were ripe.
