Traditional Product Review: PSE Kingfisher Bowfishing Bow

I had been using a Bob Lee recurve bow for bowfishing for the last several years. I sold that bow earlier this year. A couple buddies and myself decided to go bowfishing in La and I was in need of something to use for bowfishing. I had several bows in the closet, but decided I did not want to put those bows through the banging around in the boat that often happens while bowfishing. I decided that I wanted a metal riser that was tapped to mount a retriever reel.

One of my buddies mentioned to me that he had a PSE Kingfisher bow, and that it worked fine and was very cheap. I started searching the internet and found one at Cabelas for $119.99. I was a bit leery of buying such a cheap bow, but decided "What the heck, I'm not out much if I do not like it!".

The bow came in and I rigged it up. Fast forward to this past week! Myself and BDann and Arkie went to Port Sulphur La to bowfish for redfish (yes, it is legal in LA) with Bow Deadly Bowfishing Charters. We fished for 2 nights and all got our limit of reds each night, and also shot a bunch of gar, a few sheephead, and a few black drum. Arkie even shot a few mullet too!

The bow performed flawlessly, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive bowfishing rig. Here is a picture of the bow:

And here are a few from our trip this past week:

Thursday night reds (L to R - BDann, Arkie, Bisch):

    Sunset Friday:

    Friday night reds:

Sunday night, never frozen, dinner - Ragin' Blaze Grilled redfish with etoufee sauce, white rice, and fresh green beans. It sure is nice to be able to bowfish for good eating fish!!!

BDann had an 808 on his and it worked fine that way too (except when he forgot to push the button and lost an arrow ) .

Jerry, have you ever used one of those tie on or wrap on reels to fish with? i've been thinking of getting one of those, i'd like to use one of my existing bows without tapping them.

Jon, AMS makes a strap on mounting bracket that you can use on just about any bow to mount a retriever reel, or maybe even an 808, but not sure of that. Paul sells them at Double G. If you get into bowfishing at all, you will want a better reel than the hand wrapping kind. Look at it here: http://www.amsbowfishing.com/online-...urve-bows.html

Jon, I can also make a mounting bracket for just about any 3-piece takedown bow, but knowing what you shoot, that probably won't help you much.

Thats awesome! Way to go! Those reds are a lot harder to shoot at than a regular old carp.

And it stinks to miss because then you watch "dinner" swim away

The kingfisher is a great bow. Just don't leave it strung up in the garage in the Texas heat. They warp bad.

It comes in 45# or 50#@28". I got the 45# because my DL is 29.5" and that makes it right at 50# for me.
