    Backstop

I am looking at building a small archery range, and was wondering if I could simply use a pile of dirt for the backstop. I would probably pack it slightly and make it so there is a flat face behind the target. Would this work? Is there something easier/better I should be using instead?

Couple of horse stall mat from tractor supply. Make a stand/frame to hang it and it can be moveable.

Flat face wall should work. I'm in a residential area, so mine is a cinder block wall. Luckily haven't had to put it to the test yet.

Were starting to replace some fence with pipe fence. Plan on adding some hooks to about a 20 foot section to hang stall matts from the fence. We shoot there now anyway, just seemed logical.

I use my workbench-- I have a roll-around home-build target that I can shoot out to 18 yds from under the carport and stay out of the rain--plus a layered carpet target in the back I can shoot out to 25 yds

I also have access to a sand pit, however it isn't clean sand (roots, chunks of clay) will this effect an arrow? And how effective is sand at actually stopping an arrow? Will it go all the way in?

Rubber truck bed liners work well

For the bed liners do you hang them two thick? They seem a little thin for just one layer.
