How much optical zoom do you folks actually use in the field? I'm looking at a Panasonic GS-300. It has 3ccd's, but only 10x optical zoom. The lower end GS-59 has 30x optical, but only 1ccd. I'm not sure if I'd be better off with the lower end camera and more zoom, or the higher end camera with less zoom. At bowhunting shot range, I would imagine it's a mute point. For something like filiming a deer out in a field, I'm not sure how close I'd need to be with the 10 vs 30 to get a decent picture or how much practical difference there is between the two. Any feedback is greatly appreciated by this rookie camera buyer. I'm going to buy something in the next couple of days so I have it for Christmas.

I would give up high optical zoom for a camera that is good in low light conditions and a 10 power optical.. I have a camera with 12x optical and it works great for filming amature hunts... -
Go for the quality of 3 chips over 1 . If you feel you need extra 'oomph' buy a 1.5 or 2x multiplexer. Their drawback is depth of field and soft around the edges when zoomed in......
10X for bowhunting is plenty.Comment

Take the higher 3 cccd 10 power is good to 80 yards. That is the optical range. You can switch is to infinity and get more usaully.
1 cccd cameras are cheap. Buy an extra so you have both views.
