tail end of arrow kicking out

Got the new string for my recurve selfbow in the mail last night. had an old arrow laying around. Did some practice shots and saw that the tail end of the arrow would kick out a bit and fly sorta sideways. Its a selfbow so the arrow is resting against the bow. Is it the vanes hitting the bow and causing it to kick out?

When I was shooting underspined arrows, my tip would go to the right.

Are you really using vanes? I am no expert, but I thought when you are shooting off the shelf you are supposed to use feathers. They will compress and not cause the arrow to kick out.

Which way does it kick - tail left or tail right? That will tell you if your arrow is overspined or underspined.

          Lose the vanes.

The plastic vanes will cause all kinds of problems. it is very likely too, that your arrow is not even close to correct if you just had it laying around. You really need to get with an experienced trd shooter in your area to help you figure it all out. If you don't find some kind of help, you will end up getting frustrated because of poor shooting, and quit!

Sound too stiff, but the vanes will cause issues too.

All the vane replies I don't agree with at all.

If your arrows are spined & tuned correctly rather it's feathers or vanes they never touch the shelf or riser. This as been covered so many times. Go watch some slow mo youtube videos on "Archer's Paradox"

I've shot vanes off my trad bows with no issues, just don't like them.

You need to give some details so folks can help....

What weight are you pulling at your draw? What are your arrows spined at? Don't know right, they were just laying around? How much weight do you have up front?

You are either way over spined or way under spined giving a false over spined result.
