I'm looking at building a reloading bench here pretty soon. I want it to be 4 1/2' in length and 6' tall. I'm having to go small, due to not much room to put this thing. Also, looking at 2 shelves on each side, at 10" deep. I want it to be perfect sitting height, im 5' 9", what height do y'all suggest? From the back of the shelf to the table im looking at 2 1/2'. Any do's and donts on this build? Suggestions? Opinions? Looking forward to get started in reloading, thanks in advance!

I started with a 1 3/4" x 18" x 6' laminated beam. Two layers of 3/4" birch. Glued and screwed all three together.
Press removed attached to blank
Press and blank slid into bench
For some reason the top shelf looks bowed. It is not. It must be a distortion in the camera. I made sure to build a power strip into the bench and glad I did. The first shelves are 6" deep and top shelves are 12" deep.
My first batch on the new bench. It was rock solid.
30-378 weatherby mag
Bench is still a work in progress. I will put cabinet doors on the fronts and paint. I still need to make some more blanks for the bench and build a cabinet to the right to store the presses so they aren't always out.Last edited by cattlelackranch; 08-11-2013, 09:55 PM.

I used 1-1/8 plywood on one of my tables since I had it. Then on the other I ripped a piece of 5/8 and liquid nailed the 2 together and screwed it that way I had a 1-1/4 table top they both work very well. Laminating plywood together us much cheaper. And 2ft is plenty of depth IMO length is what u need alot of.

I don't have a lot of room length wise, that's why I was going with more depth. I'm only reloading .223, .40, and 20 gauge, so I wont need a ton of room.
