    First Point Questions....

i have done a little research on here, but not getting all the answers i wanted. for those that have been there, can you please help me out ?
i took some of these directly from their site.

"Almost all of the bowhunting is done from short tripods and/or ground blinds, you have to provide your own blinds (blinds and stands)."

do they supply short tripods, or are you responsible for those as well ?

"Each hunter is assigned to his/her own pasture with no more than 3 hunters per 600 acres." how many pastures ?

"DO NOT touch the feeders. Feeders go off 30 minutes after sunrise and 2 hours before dark. We also feed 32 miles of road every day."
are you allowed to hunt over feeders, or are you placed by certain trails, or just get close to the corned road and hang out ?

is it over hunted, and what is your shot % on an average trip for either does or a mature buck ? thanks

They don't supply any stands. They have alot of pastures, 15 give or take. You choose where you want to hunt. I think they used to have a rule you needed to be 100 yards or something from a feeders, but not sure if that is true or not. It is not over hunted per say, but they deer are very tough to hunt. They have been bow hunted for a long time and you have folks that educated then almost everyday. They are super smart and it is a tough hunt. As far as a percentage, that is 100% up to you. You do your own scouting, and set up. You will see deer.

What he said... I think most who have been really enjoy the place and the hunt. It's my favorite place to be in the brush. ive killed a couple good bucks there and shot a monster 12 that we never found a drop of blood anywhere exccept the arrow being soaked. Its all about using your time wisely and scouting to see where the deer are coming out so you can build a bad assssssssssssss brush blind and be ready to hear them crunching the corn as they approach.

There are 13 pastures between 300 to 600 acres each. You will be assigned a pasture upon arrival at the ranch. Bo will provide you a map of the pastures and show you where he has seen recent deer movement for that specific pasture.

This past season you were allowed to hunt the feeders; however, I am not sure about next season.

You are allowed to hunt anywhere in your assigned pasture. However it is best to hunt the feeders in the morning, and the roads in the afternoon.

I haven't hunted since the new manager took over but hunted four times previously.

Mostly all that is provided is a lot of area to hunt. I think when Mike ran it, he rotated the pastures so groups or individuals didn't hunt the same pasture back to back. Every area got a "rest".

I always saw deer. The first couple of times that I hunted we were not allowed to take does but I could have tagged out on them had I wanted to. I passed a couple of deer the first two times that I wish now that I hadn't. I saw no good bucks in range on the third hunt and had an awesome one on the last hunt I made. I was about to draw on him under a feeder at about 18 yards and I stepped on a twig that snapped. That was the end of that.

I passed this one up from about 15 yards after he ate corn for about 20 minutes. Back then I was looking for a "trophy". Now I would take any decent buck.

When I got back and looked at the photo I took, I decided that if he came out the next morning, i was going to take him. I saw horns the next day at daylight and thought it was him but it was this young 8. Back then all bucks had to be 3.5 or older and he had not instituted an 8 point rule. I wouldn't have shot him anyway but he would have been a legal deer the last year I hunted.

I watched this cull/slick 6 at about 20 feet for at least 15 minutes from a popup. You can see the edge of my popup in the upper left corner.

So you can get close to some decent deer but if you are looking for a true trophy it might be tough to be in the right place at the right time. The last year that I hunted Mike's rules were any true 8 or a buck at least 3.5 years old. I don't know how Bo runs it but I may try another trip next year after missing the last two.

I have hunted ground blinds, tripods and popups at First Point. I liked the ground blinds better and the best deer that I saw where I snapped the twig and spooked him was from a ground blind.

Play the wind, use a lot of cover and toss some corn and you should have a good chance at seeing some decent deer but it will take some work setting up the blinds unless you use a tripod.

You are totally on your own, you will be shown the area you are hunting and told the latest info on any deer seen in that area with some suggestions for success. The deer are smart but there are a lot of them, including a lot of great bucks. I've made four 2-3 day trips and have killed a buck every time, 2 cull 8's and 2 trophies, needless to say I love the place!

No but I did try the dove decoy once. The first doe that came by seemed to spook from it so I got rid of it.

Do you need to have a atv or a 4wd truck out there. Where are they located at

Were located right between Uvalde and Eagle Pass. Depending on the pasture you get and the weather you will need some sort of 4x4. Check the website and call Bo for answers

Your not suppose to use a Mojo and turn it on.

I used one every time I hunted and never had an issue.
