    Bow Blind Windows

    Hey everyone,

I'm going to be building a new 6x6 bow blind in the coming months, and wanted to get everyone's input on window size and height.

The blind will be between 10'-14' to the base, and I don't mind standing up to shoot (in fact I planed on it). I am thinking of using 12"x36" vertical windows from Deer View and place them 18"-24" from the floor of the blind. Will this give me enough room to shoot at a deer 10 yards away? I know i would be able to shoot 30 yards if needed, but should I go with 12"x48" or 12"x36" windows.

So many questions, so little time before it's 100 degrees at the lease!

I made a window frame 10" X 24" and held it up at arms length. I thought it looked pretty big and may increase the possibility of getting busted moving. I cut it down to 8" X 24"

They should be good. I have windows like that, but I also have modified rifle windows that are smaller and they work

Check out some DIY builds. Lots of help and info there but I think your headed in the right direction.

I built an octagon blind last year and learned a lot about the windows real quick

The one I built the windows were just way to big. I put screen over the front and spray painted it as well so it was difficult to see in but I still just felt way too exposed. I ended up coming back and covering the top and bottom of the windows with burlap so that when I'm sitting down I can see over the top of it and shoot (I did not elevate my blind). If you plan to leave it on the ground I agree that 8"x24" is plenty. That size is probably still good for elevating you'd just have to hang them lower. When I finally set the blind and brushed it in I really only had 2 or 3 windows that I felt like a shot would be feasible from. If I had it to do over I'd make make my shooting windows small and on the sides just and put some small pieces of glass horizontally maybe 2" x 6" that I could keep an eye on what's coming up the sides. I completely covered my two side windows with the burlap so I can still see movement but it be nice to have a clear view of what's coming.

Oh, and if the sun is out be ready to sweat, I know everyone says to wear black but I don't know how they didn't just strip down to their shorts like I did.

very good advise, I would have to say go for a 12x24 or a 12x36 vertical window, as far as how high up from the bottom, maybe start at 18"

I like modeling things before fabing them up.

Get a refrigerator box, and cut out your window sizes, and set it up on your tower and see what you like best. Have a friend come and measure you while you're drawing back as well.

Think about where your stabilizer might hit (I don't like short stabs), if your cam may hit the ceiling, room to swivel your chair, getting in and out of the blind (are you gonna bump your head on a low door?, visibility of your surrounding area)

I finished up my latest blind this past summer, it's a 6' cube, and I'm very happy with how it turned out. It sits on a set of scaffold frames, so the floor is about 7' above the ground.

Well, I plan on getting the windows this week, i decided i'll be doing 10x36" windows. Most everything will be "fabed" up before the final install. I'm going to try and do a live build.

I also told my wife that since i'll be taking up her spot in the garage with this project, her and my 5.5 year old daughter get to pick out the colors of the blind and help paint!

So there's not telling what color it'll be!
