Start with a single reed call. They are easier. I cant recommend a video. I learned by just getting a call and popping it in and practice while I'm driving. You will know when you are making the right sounds.

i mostly use old slate calls and hickory strikers to get on a bird, i'll switch to a diaphram call when i work a bird for the shot (only because its hands free) , at that point i pretty much just throw out soft puts and purrs to finish . If your just starting out , i would recommend practicing soft purrs to the point you can do them effortlessly, as this will likely be your best vocalization to the tom anyway. If a bird hangs up just out of range , it can be tuff with any call but varity is what works best imo.

The best diaphram call to buy for beginners is-HS STRUT's "Raspy Old Hen".

              ( Double reed-easy to use-great sound.)

Plenty of instructional videos on YouTube. Just type in Turkey calling. I agree with the variety. Use a slate and diaphram simultaneously if you can. My go to technique.

To get a feel for how the diaphram works in your mouth, the first sound I got comfortable making was with the word "chick"

I learned from a cd I got from my buddy. That I listen to while driving around and practicing that way no one tells me to shut up. The cd was one that came with a primoes call he got.
