    Wind Detector

Hunting in Kansas can be very challenging. The wind seems to always blow and when you are on the stand you can never trust the weather sites on smartphone. Here is a quick, easy and inexpensive way to assist with wind detection.
Instead of spending money on wind detectors, I fashioned a make shift detector to my stabilizer. Utilizing a piece of Waxed Dental Floss (about 6-8 inches long) and a small turkey feather, I attached the floss to my stabilizer. Then took the feather and tied it to the other end.
Now when I am in the stand, or making my way to the stand, I can look at the feather and the slightest breeze is detected. Even when wet, the setector still works great.
One word of caution, so NOT tie it too long. If you do the feather could interfere with your arrow. The final finshed detector should only be about 3 inched long once tied off.
This works really good whenever you have deer moving into range and you are holding your bow. A quick glance down can show the actual wind currents and you will know if the deer are about to cross downwind of the current.
Just wanted to share a inexpensive wind detector that weighs nearly nothing and works great.

Used to have basic same thing on my feeder when I hunted Brady. After hunting some canyons and foothills I went back with powder. You could watch it go 20 ft one way.....then turn......then blow right past you :O. But for a mostly flat Texas, I like your easy, less expensive setup

That works great. I prefer the seeds from a milk weed pod. Those things float for forever, and travel everywhere the wind blows. Also Russian thistle seeds work well too.

Powder man myself. Used to use frayed serving on the stabilizer for the same affect.
