    shooting does with fawns

I hunt in a county where you can only take doe with a bow in bow season, no special does season after Nov. 2. I have not seen a doe without a fawn on my camera yet and definitely wan to get some meat and thin the herd. I have seen some fawns stay with doe all season.
What's your opinion of taking does early who still have fawns with them?
How late do you wait to take a doe with a fawn?

They are not like humans, they are going to kick those fawns to the curb as quickly as they can anyways so don't worry about the fawns unless they are pre-maturely young and are obviously still in need of their mother for food

I watch a bit to make sure they are not nursing. If they look to be fending for them selves eating leaves corn etc.The momma can go to the freezer.
If the fawns seem defendant still. I pass

When the spots are gone they are ready to be alone.

Ive had the same question, I shot a doe last year with a fawn. The fawn did not still have spots and was eating corn so i took the shot, while tracking (about 30-45 minutes later) i could here the fawn in the wood around me.
made me feel horrible, but im assuming since it was feeding off corn it should be ok right?

I'm sure it was fine. A lot of times even late in rifle season big fawns will stick around if you shoot the mother. They can fend for themselves though.

Only time I don't shoot is when I see a doe with twins. I just think she is more likely to do the same thing next year so she gets a pass for being a productive animal in the herd. Single fawn, no problem taking her.
