Mfg question

Other than personal preference, what seperates the men from the boys? In other words whats the difference between Matthews, Hoyt, Bowtech, Bear, Martin, PSE and the likes? As well as the difference in the lower name brands of the big boys ie. Diamond etc. Is it the type of material used? Manufacturing techniques or what?

I don't even think the differences can be stated in one post. This is the way I look at it though.
Mathews= Maserati
Bowtech= BMW/ corvette
Hoyt= Lamborghini
PSE= mustang
Diamond= Prius

Some brands use high quality and take pride in their items to insure top quality bows and customer service. Others just get you where you need to go. Not sure if this helps but that's just my opinion

Some on this forum have no clue as to what makes one brand different than another.
Among the top brands, cam systyems are the main difference.
Hybrid,(Hoyt, PSE), Single, (Mathews, and others), and Binary, (Bowtech and others).
Two main limb manufacturers supply nearly all the limbs to all the companies, except those that manufacture their own.
Bow price within the same manufacturer,(Mathews-Mission) (Bowtech-Diamond), is determined by how much technology,(research and development), has gone into each bow, including limb technology and manufacturing price.
Higher technology doesn't necessarily mean better in a lot of cases.
I shoot a Bowtech Assassin, and I own an Insanity, but the higher technology of the Insanity only provides an added speed increase of 2=5 fps over the older technology of the Assassin, as the reduced brace height adds 10 fps.
I never wonder if I purchased the wrong bow, as I shoot the bow I like best, regardless of hype or price.

True. However, with the new cam systems you are able to get more speed with a less harsh draw cycle. I've shot the insanity and the assassin.I will agree with you that the assassin is a more comfortable bow. However, many people these days are looking for something fast and forgiving. Sure the draw cycle is a bit harsher, but that doesn't stop thousands of people from upgrading. Well then you begin to ask. Is the extra $300 really worth 10fps faster? That is up to you.

Thank you Rocky for the explanation. Other than shooting a lot more bows, there are just so many questions for a newb. And Sabine, no the 10fps is not worth the extra $300 to me. I've only shot 2 bows so far the Assassin and the Heli-m. The Assassin felt better to me. I was having a problem with the Heli-m keeping the arrow on the rest as I was almost to the wall.

Yup the heli-m does not have very much creep at all. It's a great bow but when I shot it, it seems like its always ready to launch. They do have a different stopper that can go on the cam and give you a tad more creep (I believe it's 1/16th of an inch). I'm a bowtech fan and love the assassin. I'd recommend you shoot the invasion. It's a combination of the assassin and the destroyer. I love mine.

It's on the list but most likely outta my price range. I know the RAK on the Assassin is not the best but it will get me started.

I have 4 good friends that shoot the Assasin. It is a GREAT bow.

I shoot an Insanity. It is faster has a heavier draw. But I have gotten used to it. I absolutely love the way the Insanity shoots. To me... It was well worth the extra coin.

It's all hype!! I'm a newb to the sport and I shoot a Bear Charge and right now, I wouldn't trade it for ANY other bow. I've shot a lot of the so called superior bows and haven't been impressed by them. Also, I shoot with an archery group here in town and they shoot the gambit of manufacturers and I have no problem keeping up with them. As a matter of fact, this past weekend at the Camp Bullis 3D shoot I shot top score. Any modern bow will shoot well, it's the person pulling the trigger that's the difference.

By the way, I bought my bow brand new at Academy for $179.00 and have put another $100.00 into it. I made my bow work for me and I wouldn't change it.

I'm guessing you haven't shot the 2012 carbon element?
