    Victim of Identity theft

Well, it's official, I am a victim of identity theft. We filed our tax return and after waiting about a month, I checked up on it. It turns out that someone else has used my SS# and already filed a return, which rejected my legitimate return. Now I have to file a paper return, send in an identity theft affidavit, contact the FTC, credit bureaus, Social Security office, file a police report, etc.
Has anyone else been a victim? Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

I hate to say it, but this is an Illegal's doing. They are doing this stuff more and more.

Similar thing happened to my Dad Keith. Once my dad proved to the IRS who he was, they handed the rest, and made his account right.

I found this video about it on the Internet
                  http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/20/us/tax-refund-scam/index.html?iref=obnetwork

The video states last year the IRS lost 6.5 BILLION to identity theft, and on the phone they told me it's 6 times worse this year. That means the IRS have lost 39 BILLION dollars to ID theft THIS YEAR!!?? And this is just what they will admit to! It is probably 2 or 3 times worse than that. No wonder our taxes are so high.
They need to eliminate those Debit Cards, that's how they are getting the money without being able to track them down.

                          Keith,

Notify all three Credit Bureaus of the fraud. It probably won't help with your current situation but it sure will stop or delay any further possible fraud.

                          Good luck
