Yep just go by the corps office at the lake to pick up a free permit, and you can hunt year round. They close certain areas for the people who get drawn for special permits to trap.

I duck hunt lavon and I have seen some large packs of hogs out there. Mostly on the north side of the lake. There is a map you can download off of the corps website for lavon that will show you all the hunting areas.

I know they change the rules from time to time, but the year I entered the draw (and wasn't selected) they explained to me that all areas were accessible to other hunters that any hunter with a permit could hunt any area listed on the map as a hunting area even if you had the are via the drawing. The purpose of the drawing was for special means and special access meaning you would get a key to the gate and could drive into the area that was assigned to you via the draw and that you could use devices that weren't normally allowed for example a trap or a shotgun.

I'm not sure that the shotgun is much of an advantage over a broadhead and the privilage to drive into the area was just for the purpose of dropping of traps or hauling out the hog and even then it was still limited to the designated trail. Since I don't trap it was really a waste of time to enter the drawing.

Any word if they're going to allow deer hunting this fall, since Collin County now has a bow-only deer season?

Just went to the COE office and got my permit last wednesday and the lady told me there will be no deer hunting this season at lavon...

From talking to the guys at Outdoor Pro Shops in Garland, theyre only going to allow deer hunting on private land.

Such a shame too. Id imagine it'd have to be a lottery if they ever allow a full blown deer season at Lavon.

Have hunted 2 quite a bit, even had a small bait hole for a short bit...every time I've hunted there they've been close! REAL close, but would always circle an wind...

Thinkin bout workin out to the lakebed if I can find a way to it.

Found good sign leading to 1 but never hunted it yet! Looks pretty good area though!
