I am looking fo some help down at amitstad. It has been about 5 yrs since I was there last and that was my first time. I plan on having about 3-5 days to hunt. I enjoy coming down there because it is completely different from up here (canton, tx). Any help would be great.

Ok. Here is some very rare very solid advice. I don't give out my good spots that often....but here is one for you.
Hunt in area 5. Park in the second parking area which is closest to the bridge. Walk down the hill untill you get to where the dry creekbed hits the lake. From there turn left and follow the creekbed. After a short hike you will come into a small open area. HUNT THIS SMALL OPEN AREA!!!!!!!!! It is one of the best areas to hunt in. Put the wind into your face and watch your movement.
Now for the super secret never before been posted secret spot to hunt Mouflon sheep.
Park in the second parking area. Walk down the hill to the lake. Follow the lake for about 2 miles. You are looking for the 4th cove of the lake. At the 4th cove climb the small mountain and hunt the valley down there. Those of us who hunt there call it Sheep Canyon. The Mouflon Sheep will be there along with some nice deer.
Once again hunt the wind and don't ruin my two favorite spots! I ain't hunting out there again untill mid December when the rut kicks in. Thats when it gets really good out there.
Have fun and be safe. I broke my ankle and two fingers out there last year when I walked off a small cliff going to sheep canyon in the dark last fall.

I'm looking for Amistad help as well. I'm fairly new to bowhunting, and also to TX. I've been on one successful public land bowhunt in Illinois, and I'm hooked. I've been interested in Amistad, but never seem to have the time to make the trip. I'm determined to make it this year, even if it's only for a weekend. I have a few questions......
1. As a first timer to Amistad, does anyone have any advice on how to keep my distance from other hunters?
2. I get the impression that there are plenty of deer, but are there any big deer? I haven't ever really heard one way or the other and would like to have a gauge on what a "good deer" is there in case I get a good opportunity.
3. Are Mouflon and Oudad good to eat? I know what they look like from the internet, but don't know much more about them.
4. If successful, what's the best way to handle cleaning a deer since I'll be staying in a hotel.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
