    Ultramatic demo derby car

I just scored a new ride for the destruction derby this April 30th at Field Store.
Follow me along on the build.
This is a 1977 New Yorker just like grandma used to have. Last years car (68 fury)is in the background. Gonna have to take a few parts from the Fury to build up the New Yorker.

Are we gonna keep the ice-packed tranny cooler from the Fury? Loved that piece of engineering.

You're gonna have to fill that baby up twice afore it's over.

This was originally a 440 car. No momo in it now. Somebody took the 440 out of it years ago judging by the last registration. Taking the 318 out of last years Fury. The 318 will set back a little farther in the power compartment..

Here's a couple more pics. It won't look the same in a week or two.

Dang. Just noticed. Can somebody fix my "dreby" ?? Joey??

Yep, ice cooled tranny cooler, custom quick shifter, fuel cell, battery box, steering column, and rear end from the Fury are gonna go into the NY. Probably some of the cage steel also.

One addition is going to be some redundant wiring for ignition and such.
Got 2nd place last year cuz of a broken ignition resistor.

I haven't decided to notch the frame or not yet. I'll see upon closer inspection.
We can notch, just can't add to the frame.

Is cement allowed in the frame rails?
Are you allowed to weld bolts to the rim then air the tire back up over them?
What about spray foam for the tires to make them solid?
spider gears in the rear end are you allowed to weld them up to make it a true posi track?

We can't add anything to the frame, cement or metal.

Nothing but air can go into the tires. I will have some valve stem protectors and probably some special no flat rims if I have time.

The fury rear end has been welded up for slingin dirt on both sides! It's made 5 races and is strong.
The original fury rear end twisted the splines off but the one in it now is out of a ford.

Here's a few pics of the gutting. There was some critters nests under the seats.
The gut pile has just started.

The derby is Saturday April 30. The smashing starts about 5:00PM and goes for about 4 hours. 40 - 50 cars with various heat races and a compact car race and a powder puff too. Get there early. Last year there was about 5000 folks there. Pit passes are available.
Sit on the west side of the arena so you won't face the sun.
                    It's BYOB

Whacked to roof off the fury to access steering column and roll cage steel.

Also cut the drivers door crash safety bar to reuse on the NY.

Cutting out the crash bar now will make it easier to cut out some of the roll cage.

                            Put in some firewall patches.

Removed more under hood stuff to add to the gut pile.

The steering column is just hanging in place until it can be properly located.
When the seat gets set into place, the column will be located to drivers specs.
It will get angled a little to the middle and away from the drivers door.

                            The dash bar is installed.
