    Dutch oven question?

I was looking thru the recipe section here and those peach cobblers made in a Dutch oven look just way to good. I need to go get me a Dutch oven to try this out. But where my question is that instead of sitting it on top of a hand full of lit briquettes would it work just as good if I set it on top of my firebox of my smoker and put a few briquettes on the top? I am thinking of smoking some more chickens and ribs this next weekend and it sure would be nice to finish it off with some peach cobbler

Heat is heat. You can toss the dutch oven in the oven on the range in your kitchen. You just need to know how much time each takes per the amount of heat applied. Some dutch ovens don't even have the lid to accept coals on top.

The whole foundation of cast iron cooking is the even heat distribution through the metal.

Coals up next to the metal allow for rapid and even heat transfer.

Heating the oven through the legs while sitting on a fire box would work, but it might be tricky. I imagine the "heat is heat" rule would eventually prevail... heck it might even be better.

It's certainly worth a try. Do it and report back.
