aquilla roads need help

Is it me or does the COE care about the condition of the roads in and around Aquilla? Is the county responsible for maintaining the roads or the COE. I was down there today to do some scouting and half of the road was washed away on one approach and the bridge was destroyed on the other approach. And to think people live up this road, what a shame that the county spends no money to maintain its roads.

Rough roads might be a temp inconveniance, but I don't mind rough roads when it comes to having a free place to hunt and fish. Hope you got to see some game. I'm sure you know there has been a lot of flooding in the area. Aquilla has been up from June 16 to July 25th where it is now back to normal conservation pool level. It has had two other floodings this year as well. The ACE Clifton office is responsible for both Aquilla and Whitney. If you haven't been to Whitney to see the dammage and how the Ace has been trying to prevent further damage down stream, you should go by their office and speak with them, if they have time. There has been hundreds of millions of dollars lost to damage all up and down the Brazos river basin to the gulf. As for the roads around Aquilla, they are maintaind by the county. The ACE is only responcible for the land they own. They have been trying to repair what they can, when they can, do to the rain. I don't think Hill county has a very large road crew or income base being it is mostly farm/ranch community. They are prob doing all they can just to handle getting folks to where they can get out if they need to. Whitney is still 6 feet above normal, which ain't really all that bad for now. But it did topped 24 feet above normal and has been ellivated since May 27 in just this one go around. It was 10 feet above normal a week ago. We just need some dry weather for a little while.

my scouting trip turned out to be productive but it was hard work trying to find a place to cross creeks, avoid snakes, and of course the situation with the road. it's just upsetting to not have any easy access to public hunting due to road conditions. but i do understand the county not having the funds to fix this.

I hunt Aquilla, haven't been down in a while. Guess I need to go take a look and see what my hunting are looks like.But yes the roads are Hill Countys to fix. They probably won't be in no hurry.
