    100% failure

Checked one of my 2ac. plots today, and it was a goner! Planted May 16th with the ever so knowledgeable weather man giving rain chances for 2 weeks..........yea we didn't get that. So my plots poped up from 2"-4" and just stayed there, and stayed there, and stayed there. Until last night. Guess them deer got hungry last night and ate every single plant in 2 ac. over night

Soooooo since the weatherman said NO CHANCE of rain, its time to get back in the hay fields............. oh never mind its coming a flood now. IF and only IF we get 1 1/2" min. I will replant, if not I hope they liked eating a $300 salad

Side Note: does anyone know how I may become a weather man

Can you look outside, guess on the temp, and look at the clouds and 'see' if it is going to rain? Then with all that lie to people and say; 'It's going to rain/shine for the next 3 days'? If so, you got the job. Oh and maybe read a map.

Man, I feel you pain.. My 2 acres was a bust.. Tried to plow and replant last weekend but the ground was so hard and dry I couldn't cut it Supposed to rain tonight but I'm about 70% that I'm not even going to fool with it even though I have the seed...

        easy,
get a rock, and tie it to a string, and then hang it from a tree.
Now if rock is wet then its raining,
if rock is dry then its hot
if rock is moving then its windy....

I wanted to plant early April but it rained every weekend. I was fianlly able to plane in May but then rain never came till end of the month. Memorial Day it finally started coming up. If you plant milo it can do okay planting late, but anything else forget about it. Milo is cheap to plant. If it dont grow you dont lose.

I would not plant in may unless willing to lose it. Only reasons farmers will still plant in May is because the crop is insured and if they lose the crop thats when they really make there money on the insurance.

That's why I don't plant summer plots, way too risky for my wallet. Our fall plots last into June and we feed protein, so I don't think it's worth it.

Even a failed summer plot producing only a ton to the acre of 20% forage at $200 per acre is far cheaper than feeding deer from a bag. I know it doesn't fit everyone schedule or plan but in an area that averages over 30" of rain a year its always worth the risk. I have produced 6 tons per acre in a year.....for under $200.

I've done summer food plots 4 out of the 6 years I've had my place. Every attempt has been a bust. Always too many weeds and not enough rain.
