Help with a 2000 Martin Phantom

    Hey Y'all,

I've got a 2000 Phantom that appears to be pulling only 55# with the limbs cranked all the way down when it SHOULD be 70#.

Here's what would seem to be a noob question, but I've never owned a single bow for this long.

1#: Do limbs have a tendency to weaken over time?
2#: can I still get replacement parts for a 10 year old bow?

    Thanks,
    -Wolff

is the string 10 years old as well?

no, the string is probably about 5 years old with very little mileage. Didn't have any leagues or 3D shoots where I was living for quite a while.

The string looks and feels in perfect shape.

5 year old string even with minimal usage will still have some stretch. Will it stretch to loose 15 lbs? I doubt it. It would be my first victim for replacement though...

          String and cable stretch.
Look up specs, and have SnC's twisted to proper length and cam(s) properly rotated.
I'm not familiar with this bow, so I don't know if it's a single cam or dual.
I doubt if the limbs are the culprits.
Look up axle to axle length and brace height, have SnC's twisted up until these measurements are met.
Make sure it's supposed to be a 70 lb bow first.

            Definitely a 70# bow.
Used to shoot 3D with it with 350gr arrows...

dangitall, I've been out of the loop too long. I completely forgot to check the A-A length.
Sure seems like a LOT of loss due to stretching, but like I said, I've never owned a single bow this long.

Sorry, forgot to mention it IS a single Fuzion cam.

looks like, according to specs, the axle to axle length has increased by about 1/2" and the brace height has decreased by about 3/16"

Got a call from Joel today. He told me to check my string & cable lengths... Lo and behold they were both about an inch longer than spec!

Put twists in both to get them closer to spec. Re-assembled. Got **** near to spec on AtA length and BH.

... still only pulling 55# at full crank down... grrrrr

I'm glad you got it figured out, sounds like you need some new strings.

Do yourself a favor, change out the strings and cables. They need them anyway, then set the bow up to specs. Check again, make sure before you pull it back that there is no cracks in the limbs, or the axles bent. Is it the same cam that cam with the bow? Is your scale off? Doesn't sound right, that is why the questions.

Mystery solved. I took the bow to Bass Pro Shop and checked on their scale. My new scale appears to be over 10# off.

Agreed I do need a new string & cable, due to age. Limbs appear to be in great shape. Yes, original cam & module.

Thanks for all the help y'all. :-)
