Noah (12) and I got settled into the stand just after 6:00am this morning and shortly thereafter had a small 4 point cruise through. At 6:55am we see movement and see a deer making his way toward us from the river bottom. He comes straight toward us like he’s on a string. At 25 yards he turns broadside and I tell Noah to shoot when he is ready. He let his .243 sing and the deer bowed up, then ran about 20 yards into a thicket and we heard him crash hard.
Since it was early and cool, we decided to stay in the stand to see if I could get a chance at one. At 7:00am another 8 point came up the same trail and was broadside at 30yds, But he wasn’t the deer I’m looking for so we let him walk.
Around 8:30am Noah’s patience had worn thin and he was ready to go find his deer. This is his biggest deer to date and he was pumped when we walked into the thicket and saw a white belly.
