According to NFA tracker e file form 1 "average" is 163 days.

Clearly based on what the GS sayeth their wait time is steadily increasing

I'm sure this has been mentioned and beaten to death on here somewhere but would it be that difficult for them to file repeat customers separately from first time customers and expedite their forms since they have already had a background check?

We need a ATF employee insider on the GS

That doesn't really make sense. You can commit a crime between the last BC and the next BC.

What I would like to see is batch approvals. You file a Form 1 SBR in January. In Feb you buy two suppressors on Form 4s. In March you decide to Form 1 your own can. In April, the ATF examiner finally gets to your January form. He approves all your other pending forms at the same time.

I didn't say do away with background checks but a vast majority could be cleared much faster if they only had to investigate the time between stamps instead of everyone's entire life for every stamp.


I do like your idea of "batch" approvals. It does seem the ATF does not operate at maximum or even moderate efficiency when it comes to processing.

If I can walk in, show LTC and walk out with any legal firearm in 15 minutes , there is no reason I shouldn't be able to do the same with a suppressor, SBR, SBS, etc.

I think that the NFA process is a product of government choosing to slow the process. I agree with Mike. They can always come get it if something changes.

I submitted 7/5 too. A guy at the atf told so many people submitted June that it might take them 4 months to get from June 1 to June 30th. If I get mine by March I'll be suprised.
