    Made a Replica Knife

Replica of Native American fighting bowie, it's main reason I did not use a brass guard. I used a piece of stabilized maple and wrapped it with imitation deer sinew, it's 14 1/2 OAL,9 1/2 blade. Elk antler handle. Rawhide sheath, leather lined and stitched with the same sinew. It's surly not a 100% replica as I used 52100 ball bearing steel and I did pin the handle with a 1/8" brass pin.

That looks amazing, but I'm afraid that if I got in a fight with it, I'd get my fingers cut off either because somebody's blade would slide down mine until it reached my fingers, or I'd go to stab somebody, and my hand would slip down the blade. I wonder how many people injured fingers before they realized they need a guard.

I agree Sam, it felt strange to build it without a guard. I think the Native Americas found out that it was better to first use an arrow. D
